Obama’s 2009 Recovery Act Encourages College Degrees With Pell Grant!

President Obama’s Recovery Act in 2009, wasn’t only focused on jobs. The Commander in Chief realized one of the best ways to improve a citizen’s income is to advance the person’s education. As such, a major part of the Act, $225 billion of it, is dedicated to contracts, grants and loans, including college loans, and $500 million of that will have a direct impact on online colleges.

“All along that education pipeline, too many people”, he said in a speech last year, “are slipping through the cracks. It’s not only heartbreaking for those students; it’s a loss for our economy and our country.”

One statistic President Obama wanted to seriously address is that only 29% of U.S. adults have a college degree, fewer than in many other industrialized nations. Only about 40% of Americans who start college graduate. The price of higher education, which rises by an average of 8% a year, contributes to the high dropout rate.

One of the President’s solutions was to dedicate $500 million to colleges for new programs. Asking for twenty to twenty-five new courses each year was only the start. These courses need to be available to everyone willing to attend, whether they do so on their own desktop computer, at a local library, or via new technology such as the Amazon Kindle.

A key reason is the overall affordability of online education versus on campus. The Board of Education estimates an on campus degree costs approximately 40% more than going to an online college. The average cost for a 4-year degree is $150,000 going on campus, while USA Today reports the cost of is $65,000 for the same amount of time.

These days one can get an online degree in nearly every subject, from vocational trade certificates to Masters. Many online academies offer classes as comprehensive as the top schools throughout the world. Many are actually created and offered by these same top schools. It’s no surprise the President is a fan of online education. Students get the same education online and attending this way allows more students to participate as they are able to work and attend classes at the same time.

Not surprisingly, there are many money-saving benefits to attending a school from home. The student can continue their work, a feature that is particularly attractive. Many companies, including some of the major players in convenience foods, offer scholarships to employees. If those working for the chain are there for a certain number of hours, they can get aid, study and work conveniently located. Those with children will appreciate not having to spend money for sitter fees, not to mention transportation costs.

If the program goes the way President Obama wants, it’s a situation that will benefit both the government and the people of this nation. The country gets a better education populace that will earn more, become more self-sufficient, and contribute by not needing assistance and paying taxes. The availability of college grants are facilitating the dreams for so many. Wanting to attend school and then getting assistance, via online scholarships or through a grant for online school, means the dreams of many benefit themselves and the country. Everyone wins. There is a range of information available about receiving your grant for online school on the internet.

Taking Charge of Your Child’s Education With Homeschooling

Choosing home schooling is difficult for a family, and doing so can have positive implications. All sorts of people have the desire to home school; there is no one kind of family participating in the movement. What kind of person is a successful homeschooling parent? Time is probably the most important thing you must have to be a successful homeschooling parent. Beyond that, there is no one set of characteristics that you need to make your home school a success. If you have the desire, some tenacity, and enough time, you increase your chances of success.

Perhaps in your past, you’ve been a busy businessperson, trying to save money and economize in the office. You focused on locating Business coupon to lower costs associated with communications. In other words, you focused hard on a goal – lowering costs – and you were able to see it through. Searching out the best Business software coupons takes the same focus as would running your own successful home school. You can look at your home school as a kind of business, if you want to!

To get started homeschooling, you need to determine how you want to design your curriculum. The days of sitting around the kitchen table with a “canned” curriculum are past. One of the most popular options is to take this and that from various curricula to make something that works for a family. Of course, there are many wonderful comprehensive curricula. However, don’t feel like this is your only option, because you can define for yourself what you think works.

The least restrictive type of homeschooling is “unschooling.” Those who unschool reject the institutionalization associated with modern schooling, which they feel drives away a love of learning among the young. Another popular option is the “classical” education, a curriculum steeped in the long traditions of Western culture.

Still others turn to all-in-one curricula delivered online or through workbooks. Another option still is unit studies, where a subject is chosen from which all areas of learning are explored through that subject. One example is where a family studies ancient Egypt, which they use as a springboard to study mathematics, history, and more through the lens of ancient Egypt.

There is much to think about as you think about trying homeschooling. Use the Internet to learn more about it, and make the choice for yourself.

Make Your Own After School Programs

Whether you’re a parent or a childcare provider, keeping kids busy, happy and safe after the school day ends can be a challenge. However, cost can be a major concern when school sponsored activities are on the decline and fees for leagues and instructors are on the rise. Fortunately, there are lots of fun, inexpensive activities that will enhance child development and keep your child safe until you get home. In this article, we’ll show you how to find community after school programs that are budget friendly, as well as activities you can plan on your own.

A child’s education should go beyond the classroom and outside of regular school hours. Most schools offer extracurricular activities like outdoor sports, book clubs, music and drama. Speak to teachers at the beginning of the year about the programs that are offered through the education system and find out about any fees and costs involved. Planning ahead for these expenses and doing things like buying used equipment, cost sharing with other parents, and putting aside extra money can greatly relieve the budget burden of after-school activities for kids.

You should also speak to your kids about things that interest them and find out what they want to learn more about. Come up with a list of options and ask them to choose a program that they would like to be involved in. Try to find a balance between fun and education. Forcing your child to participate in something that they don’t enjoy will only make them resent the activity. Look for things that seem to interest a lot of kids like skate boarding, music, collecting hockey cards, or making jewelry, as the benefits of after school programs cannot be stressed enough.

After school programs can be as educational as any classroom lesson, but they also need to be fun and less structured, as new skills should to be taught in a way that’s entertaining. Ideally, it should also involve interaction with other kids so that social growth and development is encouraged. Visual aids like interactive games, DVDs, the Internet and television shows are excellent tools for teaching younger children and keeping them entertained. After they view the material, have them put it into context with interesting activities like playing an instrument, drawing pictures or even play acting.

Tapping into the skills and talents of your friends and neighbors is a great way to come up with ideas for do-it-yourself projects for the kids. Know someone with a green thumb? They may be interested in sharing their hobby with the kids by spending one afternoon a week showing them how to grow plants from seeds. This ongoing project can be fascinating for children. Is there a mechanic in the neighborhood? Have them spend a few hours teaching kids about the basics of how a car runs. Spend some time volunteering in the community by going to local animal shelters, food banks or senior citizens homes. After school programs don’t have to cost big bucks. Starting after school programs is easy if you can work with other parents. You can develop your own projects that are both fun and educational.
