The importance of a tutoring program in high school cannot be emphasized enough. How a student performs in his or her high school years can have a significant effect on their post-secondary life. High grades and test scores can mean scholarships and admission into prestigious universities. Passing grades for those who are not academically inclined can mean the difference between finishing with a high school diploma and more job opportunities, and not completing high school at all. A peer, school tutoring system can be very beneficial to all students but there are a few steps that should be taken to ensure success.
Research is the first step when creating a tutoring program. Administrators cannot suddenly decide to implement peer tutoring and expect it to work. Once the decision to explore the possibility of a peer tutoring system has been made, administrators should make the idea known to students and see what kind of response they get. This can be done during an assembly, through surveys or as an announcement at the end of classes. If there is a positive response, then the next steps can be taken for student peers to become English and/or math tutors, or any other subject.
The way peer tutoring programs usually work is through the pairing of students. Usually those in the top of the class, such as those getting A’s in certain subjects, will be assigned to work with students at the other end of the academic spectrum, such as those failing or struggling to maintain even C averages. Some schools have had great success by allowing the students to choose each other, and in some cases letting students advertise themselves as providing a tutoring service. Each school will need its own approach, and this can be determined again through proper research.
Payment is not always found in peer school tutoring programs, but it can provide positive results. Payment can be in the form of money, given to the student by the school, not the student being tutored; or it can be in the form of other types of rewards. This could be anything from cafeteria food to points that build up to be used in field trips. Without payment, these programs will only go so far. Maximum success will result from a financial investment made by the school.
A tutoring program that succeeds will result in an increase in school spirit and students who are much closer to each other. More measurable results will also be higher grade point averages across the board, a higher percentage of graduates going on to post-secondary institutions, and fewer dropouts. All of this success really depends on the efforts that both the students and the faculty are able to put into the program.

Digital tutors are individuals who share their experience of working with sophisticated video and graphics software, mainly through tutorial videos that can be downloaded. Written articles with pictures of the work process can also be provided but in the past few years it is mainly videos that are used as they are a much clearer form of tutoring. The best part of learning from these experts is that their videos tend to be free to download.
The way a digital tutor tends to share their work is by creating a movie file that usually consists solely of an opening title and then just a one-take point-of-view shot as the tutor goes through a particular process from start to end. These can be any length of time but for most techniques there would be an average of ten minutes per tutorial video. These videos are then uploaded to a site that specializes in providing this kind of tutoring service or a site like www.youtube.com where any videos can be posted. People interested in learning about the particular technique being demonstrated can then watch or download the movie file.
Often digital tutors will also provide project files that go along with their videos. These files can be downloaded and opened in the program that is being discussed. This allows the person learning to work with the same files that are used in the video and get comfortable with the techniques and processes before trying with their own files. Often these project files will be at a lower resolution to prevent people from simply copying the work of the tutor for financial gain.
Digital tutors support their videos and the people who download them by making their email available if anyone has questions about their video tutorials. This is very beneficial, especially when people have tried to apply the techniques shown in the tutorial to their own projects and have not had the same level of success. Just like with tutors who you see face-to-face, this gives you the chance to directly question the tutor and get a specific answer, thus removing some of the distance created with online tutors.
Digital tutors provide a great service to all of those in the design and video industry. The no-cost tutoring that is made available for everyone has resulted in a significant leap forward in the abilities of experienced professionals, and has helped even those just starting out provide quality work for their clients. As technology becomes more sophisticated it is likely that the videos tutorials will become even more useful and interactive as well, increasing the level of support that these people provide.

With the explosion of the e-learning industry, the need for tutors is everywhere, both in the private and public sectors. Online tutors in particular are becoming more important and so the role of the tutor is being looked at very closely. Basically, the skills needed by a tutor in this day and age are not so different from those ten, twenty or even thirty years ago. The only real additional skills needed are the ability to work reasonably well with computers and having a solid understanding of the internet and related online functions.
The main skill that tutors need is the ability to create a positive learning environment. For those tutoring online, it means setting things up so technical difficulties do not overwhelm students or distract them from the material being taught. It also means knowing the field that they are tutoring in very well so that they are a competent authority on the subject. While tutors do not necessarily require any kind of teaching certificate, an ability to teach is very important. They need to be able to transfer knowledge to their students in an effective manner, as being an expert in a field does not mean they will be able to help someone else be one too.
One of the trickiest things a tutor needs to master to become effective is the ability to adapt their tutoring programs to create the best fit for their students. Everyone learns at a different rate and through different methods. A tutoring approach that is the same for everyone will not produce the best results, even if that approach is a very strong one. In order to keep students happy, strong ones need to be challenged, while weaker ones need additional support. Being flexible with your delivery will produce the best results.
Tutors are not so different from teachers, in that the great ones will always be said to inspire passion for learning. Even if lesson plans are well crafted in approach and delivery and are regularly adjusted to challenge students at the right level; to not encourage your students to become more proactive in their learning will limit production levels. This passion can be created by enthusiasm, by creative approaches with lesson material, or by regularly checking with and assisting your students to show how much you care about their progress.
A tutor can be an influential person in someone’s life, depending on how motivated they are. It doesn’t matter if they meet with students in person for after school tutoring or help people in different countries through an online tutoring center. What does matter is to research and know not only how to tutor effectively, but how to tutor specific students effectively. Add to that the ability to inspire others to work harder and this will equate to great success at tutoring.

Tutoring has become a major business in North America, as parents look for more ways to help their children succeed. With the current population numbers and the economy in a recession, companies can afford to hire only the best and so graduating from and succeeding in a good school can contribute greatly to finding a quality job. There is more competition between job applicants than ever before and most parents are aware of this and naturally want the best for their children. Therefore, there has been a significant interest in securing the services of private, personal tutors.
Basically, an online or private tutor supplements the regular and standard schooling that children receive. Usually, it occurs after school and reviews or builds on information already taught at school. If the student is really struggling, then the personal tutor will likely focus on material previously studied; if the student is doing well and the extra studying is to help in preparation for what is coming up later in the year, then naturally the material studied will be new.
Typically, private tutoring has usually been used as a way to help a student in an area of weakness. Therefore, if a student is getting low marks in math and has difficulties understanding the different equations commonly taught, then a math tutor could be hired to help. For many students in North America whose first language is not English, an English tutor can greatly assist in helping those children keep up with the rest of their classmates and eliminate the language handicap they may have. A tutor can be hired to focus on any area of weakness that an individual may have.
Tutoring does not just have to be used to raise a student’s overall grade in a subject over a semester or a year. Some tutors will offer their services as a way to pass a particularly important test. In this kind of situation, the tutor focuses more on how to take a test and what kind of questions are likely to be asked. This is in contrast to traditional studying that focuses on raising the overall ability of a student in a certain subject.
Regardless of whether these educational services are delivered at home or at a center for tutoring, they usually make a huge difference in a child’s academic standing. Public school is, unfortunately, often not enough for children to get the edge they need to succeed in and beyond high school. Those who receive this extra support in the form of a tutor will likely be more confident, develop better study habits and receive higher grades in their academic pursuits.

There is a company called Digital Tutors but essentially this name can be used to describe any type of online tutor, though usually it is those who are specialized in video and graphic editing programs that go by that particular term. These people tend to provide a form of free tutoring through the creation of tutorial videos that are available for the general public to download. It is pretty rare for one-on-one tutoring to occur in this fashion.
The way a digital tutor tends to share their work is by creating a movie file that usually consists solely of an opening title and then just a one-take point-of-view shot as the tutor goes through a particular process from start to end. The other way that digital tutors provide support is through comment sections and email. Usually there will be space for people who have watched and tried out the video tutorial to post their comments any offer other advice they can share with others. The person who made the video will often comment when appropriate, and in addition they will usually provide an email address so people can send their questions and feedback. In this way, if someone is having trouble applying the techniques shown to their own project, they can obtain support directly from the tutor.
